Myocardial oxygen consumption at constant left ventricular workload and varying arterial oxygenation1

Abstract
The effect of arterial oxygen content (CaO2) changes on myocardial O2 consumption (MO2) was studied in dogs with controlled heart rate, cardiac output, and arterial pressure. MO2 did not change significantly as a result of systemic or selective left coronary CaO2 changes ranging randomly from hypoxaemia to hyperoxaemia.
