Abstract
The quantitative “requirements” for each of the 9 essential amino acids for effective repletion of the protein-depleted rat have been determined experimentally in terms of the ability of the animal to regain lost weight in a period of 10 days. Carcass and liver analyses helped to validate the findings. Although the results obtained have no absolute value except under these experimental conditions, the proportionality relationship of the amino acid utilization amounts appears to have a broad significance. Our conclusions are:Keywords
