Abstract
A trichloracetic acid extract of corpora lutea was prepared and was fed to young growing guinea pigs on a basal vitamin free diet. In a 2nd group, the vitamin free diet was supplemented with 1.5 cc. of lemon juice daily, while a 3rd or control group received only the basal diet. The amount of extract fed daily contained 1 mgm. of the ascorbic acid. Guinea pigs receiving this daily amount grew practically as well as those receiving lemon juice. The control animals ceased growing after 9 days and died with typical symptoms of scurvy. Ascorbic acid was very abundant in the corpora lutea of sows and cows.
