Abstract
Mössbauer effect absorption spectra have been observed with 127I in the thyroid compounds MIT, DIT, T3, and T4. DIT and T4 were found to have similar spectra. The spectrum from MIT was statistically different from DIT and T4. T3 had a spectrum intermediate between MIT and DIT, although not statistically different from either. The effective charge on the iodine nucleus was more positive in MIT than in the other three compounds. All of the compounds exhibited a small s hybridization. Keywords
