(π, πN) puzzle: Effects of pion charge exchange

Abstract

The ratio of cross sections for nucleon knockout by pions, e.g.

\frac{σ [{}^{12}C (π^{-}, π N) {}^{11}C]}{σ ({}^{12}C (π^{+}, π N) {}^{11}C]}

, is shown to be insensitive to pion charge exchange either before or after the knockout collision.
