Abstract
Gamma irradiation of flax seedlings produced no change, or only a slight shift toward resistance to Melamp-sora lini; the latter effect attributed to inhibition of the fungus. Radiation of wheat and oats before inoculation induced, in some varieties, a lower level of resistance to stem rust and to crown rust. This effect was attributed to an alteration in the host The shoot apex was the major radiosensitive site, both as regards susceptibility to plant injury and to alteration of the rust reaction, suggesting an involvement of growth-regulating substances. Keywords
