Abstract
Injury to eyes of Drosophila by heat causes the Malpighian tubules to become pigmented. A few offspring of these flies also have pigmented tubules. Experiments were conducted to show whether or not the effects of the injury were inherited and what effect the injury might have on the appearance of mutations. The appearance of pigmented tubules in the 2nd generation was apparently due to the larvae eating part of the eyes of dead flies in the culture. The effects of injury to the eyes are not inherited and the injury does not increase the rate of mutation.
