PARTICULATE FOULlNG OF SENSIBLE HEAT EXCHANGERS

Abstract
A previously reported experimental study on gas oil fouling is extended and the results generalized upon, and new experimental data on the fouling of a sand-water slurry are presented. Both sets of apparently contradictory results are rationalized by a mathematical model in which deposition is controlled by mass transfer and/or adhesion, after Parkins and Nijsing, and is counteracted by a release term similar to that postulated by Kern. Modifications of the model are discussed.
