LEUCINE AMINOPEPTIDASE IN THE THYMUS

Abstract
The occurrence of leucine aminopeptidase in the thymus glands of white laboratory mice aged 1 day [long dash]6 months was studied histochemically. LAP activity was relatively weak in the thymus where it occurred in a narrow zone on the outer margin of the cortical layers and in the medullary part; the inner part of the cortical layer was inactive. The positive reaction was concentrated above all in the reticulum cells, though some of these in certain areas were negative. No LAP activity was established in Hassall''s bodies. Nor was activity demonstrated in the lymphocytes of the thymus.
