Abstract
The emergence of drug-resistant malaria parasites and insecticide-resistant mosquito vectors necessitates the development of new methods to combat malaria. In their Perspective, Hemingway and Craig explore transmission-blocking therapies that aim to prevent transmission of the reproductive stages of the malaria parasite from the insect vector to the human host when the mosquito takes its next blood meal. As part of this endeavor, they discuss new work by Osta et al. that identifies three mosquito genes affecting the sexual development of the malaria parasite in the mosquito gut. Keywords
