Abstract
The effects of input-output characteristics of TV chains were evaluated by studying the error rates of five observers viewing a test series of chest x-ray films. It was found that the error rates associated with TV images were higher than those associated with direct viewing. It was also found that introducing non-linearities in the input-output characteristics of a TV system improved error rates until they equaled those obtained by direct viewing. The findings should aid the future application of TV displays for such uses as the transmission or the processing of radiographic images. Keywords
