Abstract
A single oral or intramuscular dose of oxamniquine (6-hydroxymethyl-2-isopropylaminomethyl-7-nitro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline) had potent schistosomicidal action against Schistosoma mansoni in mice and hamsters. No convincing activity was demonstrated against Chinese S. japonicum in either host, or against Nigerian S. haematobium in hamsters, although the schistosomicide hycanthone also was inactive orally against the latter. Keywords
