Abstract
IX. Using their own micro-method, the authors studied the distribution of pepsin in the hog stomach. The relative activity of fundic, pyloric and cardiac areas followed a 4:2:1 ratio for respective regions. In the fundus, the greatest activity occurred 2 to 3 mm. below the mucosal surface. There was no localization of peptic activity at any depth in either pyloric or cardiac; areas.[long dash]X. Acid could be demonstrated only in the fundus; it was concentrated at a depth of 1 to 1.5 mm. below the mucosal surface.[long dash]XI. Peptidase activity (measured by the cleavage of alanylglycine) was greatest in the pyloric, next greatest in the cardiac and least in the fundic region. The depths of greatest peptidase activity were 1, 2 and 2.2 mm. for respective areas.[long dash]XII. Localization of esterase was studied (using Me butyrate as a substrate). This enzyme is found in similar concns. in all regions of the stomach and at all depths of the mucosa. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
