Abstract
A simple measure of tameness, approach distance or approachability, was used to demonstrate the significantly greater tameness of Falkland Island birds compared with their continental conspecifics. Approach distance was correlated positively with body mass in both insular and continental birds, but this relationship was more pronounced in the continental sample; effects of flock size and proximity to human settlements were insignificant and weak, respectively. Possible selective advantages of these patterns are discussed. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
