Abstract
There is abundant evidence that most practicing engineers fail to consistently apply formal data collection and analysis techniques. We describe a case-based instructional approach designed to reinforce lecture material and motivate students to apply what they have learned. The approach is illustrated with an exercise based on an actual case study of increasing yields for manufacturing electronic components. Keywords
