Uptake of Fission Products and Neutron-Induced Radionuclides by the Clam

Abstract
The ability of clams to rapidly concentrate Zn65, Fe59 Co60 and various fission products in both the shell and soft tissue was demonstrated. The rate of uptake of Co60 varied as a power function of its concentration in the medium. The clam thus serves as a useful biological indicator for assessing low levels of radioactive contamination in marine areas.
