Abstract
A total of 166 cases with dislocated lenses were studied, with special reference to the ultimate fate of these eyes. Trauma is the most common cause of dislocated lens. The high incidence of syphilis in this group of patients is pointed out. Lens extraction was done in 114 eyes; vision was improved in 43 cases. Vitreous was lost at lens extraction in 47 cases (41%). The two major complications encountered with displaced lens—retinal detachment and glaucoma—are discussed. It is shown that removal of the lens to control glaucoma in cases of traumatic dislocation is only occasionally successful. Finally, a number of eyes have been followed over a period of time which have tolerated the displaced lens and have retained good vision.
