Intermittent corticosteroid therapy of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract
Fifteen patients 5 to 18 1/2 years of age with definite or classical rheumatoid arthritis were treated for a mean duration of 22 months (12 to 32 months) with intermittent triamcinolone on a 7 day on, 5 day off therapy or a 3 day on, 4 day off therapy regimen. Eleven of the 15 patients showed remission or major improvement in their disease. The only complication of significance was osteoporosis. Only moderate suppression of pituitary‐adrenal function was observed.
