Abstract
Tensor operator methods are applied to find the matrix elements of the two-nucleon tensor force between states of two inequivalent nucleons in coupling. The results are used to obtain the direct and exchange terms arising from a tensor-force interaction between states of a shell closed except for a single vacancy and external inequivalent nucleon.
