Abstract
Raman-scattering transitions have been observed between the hindered rotational states of the Jahn-Teller-distorted ground state of in CaO. Impurity-induced scattering from the CaO vibrations was also observed. The results are in good agreement with the cluster model for the low-lying vibronic states.
