The jet in M87

Abstract
The jet is assumed to be ejected from the nucleus supersonically into a gas which is at rest; the knots that result are related to those which are observed and an estimate of the jet temperature follows. The magnetic field and particle density inside the jet are discussed and observations are suggested.
