Combined Adrenergic Receptor Blockade and Circulating Catecholamines in Hemorrhagic Shock

Abstract
In dogs, premedication with phenoxy-benzamine and dl-propranolol effectively revived an otherwise fatal period of hypertension. The effect of this combined medication was not related to the α-adrenergic receptor blocking activity of phenoxybenzamine but to some of its unidentified actions. The β-blocking activity of dl-propranolol appeared to be essential in producing the effect.
