Abstract
A count was carried out of all cells composing the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus. The total count on the right side was 9423 cells and 9466 cells on the left side. Of the three cell types found within this nucleus 77% are of the fusiform type A with a cell-size mean of 131 square-microns, 11% are of the type B characterized by many enclosed pigment granules with a cell-size mean of 135 sq-microns, and 12% are of the type C with a cell size mean of 160 sq-microns and a multiforme outline. These figures are compared with the related findings in the nucleus ambiguus of the same brain-stem.Keywords
