TRACE ELEMENT RELATIONSHIPS IN NEW JERSEY SOILS

Abstract
Deficiencies of B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, and Zn have been observed in crops grown in New Jersey soils. Only B deficiency is widespread over most of the soils of the state. Shortages of the other elements listed occur with only limited soil-crop combinations. Reasonably satisfactory methods of soil analysis for identification of single micro-nutrient element deficiencies have been in use for a number of years. The need for simultaneous examination of soils and crops for the supply of several trace elements is becoming evident. Research until now seems to show, however, that no single extractant will give a measure of the plant availability of more than a very few trace elements.
