MERALGIA PARAESTHETICA

Abstract
A study of 115 patients of meralgia paraesthetica, showed the aetiological factors to be as varied as in case of neuropathies in general. In 20 patients meralgia was seen in association with wider neuropathy. However, anatomical variations in the course of the nerve and the role of local trauma by physiological means is regarded as important. Wasting of the quadriceps was seen in 13 patients. In most patients, the syndrome is a minor nuisance recovering on its own. In a few it can give rise to severe pain needing surgical treatment.
