Abstract
We analyzed a large collection of Escherichia coli isolates typed by enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC)-PCR with BioNumerics gel analysis software. However, the interexperimental variation of ERIC-PCR caused the computer software to classify repeated isolates as different. ERIC-PCR should not be used as the sole determinant of genetic similarity when typing large numbers of bacterial isolates via computer software. Keywords
