The Pt/O2 Electrode in Sulfuric Acid Solution

Abstract
Experimental results indicate that on a platinum electrode in sulfuric acid solutions of pH 0–0.75 the potential‐determining equilibrium is . As the pH of the solution is increased a second potential‐determining equilibrium becomes of increasing importance. Rest potentials on platinum electrodes in helium‐saturated solutions which are virtually free of oxygen indicate that these same reactions could also play an important role.
