Abstract
The transfer matrix in one dimension is generalized in order to treat a wide class of problems. Solutions involving the Schrödinger and Dirac equations as well as the Kane two band model are presented. In the case of a periodic potential E(k) is obtained by diagonalizing the transfer matrix and solutions of the above equations yield a dispersion relation which can be written as cos (kd) = f(E)Keywords
