Abstract
Carbohydrate metabolism was assayed in experimental nephrosis in rats, by measurement of urinary glucose, blood glucose, insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. For a short period after injection of nephrotoxic serum, there were slight decreases in blood sugar, glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity. The latter 2 functions then returned to normal. The response to fasting was the same as in normal rats. These results do not support the concept of decreased gluconeogenesis resulting from protein loss in the urine. Keywords
