Abstract
The production in monkeys of a condition resembling human verruga by inoculation of a strain of BartoneU abacilli-formis isolated from the blood of a fatal case of Oroya fever suggested that both Oroya fever and Verruga peruana might be caused by the same organism. The etiologic agent of verruga was sought by inoculating monkeys with suspensions of tissue from verruga patients. The inoculations led to typical fever, verrucous lesions, and anaemia, and there was isolated from the blood a microorganism indistinguishable from the strain of Barton-ella bacilliformis from Oroya fever. Serological tests confirmed the relationship of the organisms. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
