Cross sections for the production ofC11in C targets byNe20andFe56at relativistic energies

Abstract
Cross sections for the reactions Ne12,X)11C and Fe12,X)11C were measured using 1.05 GeV/nucleon Ne20 and 1.7 GeV/nucleon Fe56 ions. Annihilation radiation from C11 was counted using a large volume NaI(Tl) detector. Values of 80.4±1.9 mb and 99.5±1.1 mb were obtained for Ne20 and Fe56, respectively. The results are compared with earlier measurements of C11 production from C targets using relativistic p, He4, and C12 projectiles. The C12(RHI,X)11C cross sections are well described by a linear transport model, but are not in agreement with the predictions of strong factorization.
