Abstract
A theoretical solution is presented for the variation of collapse load with changes in geometry of a rigid-plastic circular plate under uniform compression, which furnishes an upper bound on the behaviour of such a plate. The solution is obtained by assuming an arbitrary form for the distribution of plastic hinges in the plate at finite deflection and minimizing the applied load with respect to the assumed mechanism to obtain the required load-deflection relationship.
