Abstract
The study of a national sample of births showed that in 1976 > 50% of French women worked during pregnancy. Working during pregnancy was, on the whole, associated with better antenatal care and outcome of pregnancy. This relationship remained after taking into account the more favorable social characteristics of working women. Physically hard working conditions were associated with a high risk of preterm delivery.
