Pinatubo in the Antarctic

Abstract
On July 20 and 21, 1991 over Dumont d'Urville a very strong lidar signal was detected over Dumont d'Urville in Antarctica at a height between 20 and 23 km. During a 6 hour measurement secondary layers appeared at lower heights, between 13 and 15 km. The scattering ratio was of the order of some hundreds. Such event could not be linked to Polar Stratospheric Clouds.
