Electric Dipole Decays of- Octupole States

Abstract
The -ray decay modes of the octupole - state have been determined for , , , and from measurements of () spectra using a coincidence-anticoincidence Ge(Li)-NaI(Tl) spectrometer. Available information for , , , and is also summarized. A large variation in the ratio of reduced transition probabilities, , has been observed. The experimental value for is much lower than the shell-model estimate () due to Soga, which assumed a pure configuration and characterized the , , and states according to their isospin properties. This result seems to require a substantial isovector component in the states of .
