Peripheral Nerve Lesions in the Upper Extremity in Hemiplegic Patients

Abstract
REHABILITATION of the upper extremity in hemiplegie patients presents multiple problems. Superimposed musculoskeletal and neuromuscular complications may be obscured by the hemiplegia. Prompt recognition and treatment of these conditions may improve the prognosis, which in most cases is less favorable than that for the lower extremity. In a previous study the recognition and management of reflex sympathetic dystrophy in hemiplegie patients were described.1 This report concerns the incidence of peripheral nerve lesions in the upper extremity in hemiplegie patients. The advent of organized rehabilitation activities has led to early mobilization and treatment during the flaccid stage of the hemiplegia.
