Abstract
It is shown that in a liquid of infinite conductivity hydrodynamic motion may result in an indefinite increase of the strength of the internal magnetic field ; but that the external field is severely limited in the case when the volume occupied by the liquid is simply connected. These limitations disappear when the volume is multiply connected. The case of finite conductivity is then briefly discussed. Keywords
