Optical Determination of the Correlation Coefficient

Abstract
Correlation is a measure of similarity between two images. Maximum correlation occurs when the two images are identical. An optical method for the measurement of the correlation coefficient is described. The method uses the intensity transmission of the images. In order to get the value unity for the correlation coefficient for two identical images, normalization is used. Experiments give estimated values of accuracy and precision of about 4 per cent.Keywords
