Protest and Vocalizing Behavior of Cuddling and Noncuddling Infants to Different Textured Fabrics

Abstract
Infants ( M = 9 mo.), designated as “cuddlers” ( N = 13) and “noncuddlers” ( N = 7), responded differentially to fabrics located on a special floor that always contained three textures plus a fourth one, either a non-abrasive burlap or a coarse carpet material. Protests of the cuddlers were significantly higher than noncuddlers during exposure to the carpet. Cuddlers showed more positive vocalizing during exposure to the burlap than to the carpet Positive vocalizing of noncuddlers, however, was the same to the carpet and burlap fabrics.
