Abstract
Membranes used were 3-week-old mouse skin, 4-week-old chick skin, and 2-day-old turkey poult skin. Skins, kept frozen until used, were untreated except for clipping of down or hair. Insects tested were the sheep ked (Melophagus ovinus), the hog louse (Haematopinus suis). cattle lice (H. eurvsternus and Linognathus vituli) and the dog louse (L. setosus). All M. ovinus, H. suis and H. eurvsternus tested fed to repletion on sheep blood through 2-day-old turkey poult skin. All M. ovinus and H. suis tested fed to repletion through 4-week-old chick skin. Less success was encountered in feeding L. vituli and L. setosus. which required down or hair for foothold, and the membranes appeared to be unsuitable. Notes on the feeding periodicity of the spp. are presented.
