Abstract
A study has been made of the changes in cystine and cysteine contents of mixtures of cystine and cysteine in boiling ethylamine, and the nature of the reaction products examined. On the basis of these findings it is suggested that the decomposition of cystine in alkali occurs, to some extent, through the breakdown of cysteine and the subsequent reduction of cystine. Keywords
