Abstract
Varied the exposure time and time between successive exposures in a picture recognition task given to 89 undergraduates. Exposure times of .2, .5, 1, 2, and 4 sec. Were orthogonally combined with between-slide durations of 1, 2, and 4 sec. It was found that confidence ratings of recognition increased monotonically with exposure time but were not affected by the amount of time between slides. Results suggest there is no direct analogue of verbal rehearsal in the processing of complex visual information. Complex pictures appear to be processed almost entirely during the period in which they are physically exposed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)Keywords
