Abstract
The enzyme isopenicillin N synthetase is able to convert directly the dipeptides, phenoxyacetylcysteinylvaline and phenylacetylcysteinylvaline into penicillin V and G respectively; these are however very slow compared with substrates of the α-aminoadipoyl or adipoylcysteinylvaline type.Keywords
