Optimal Realistic Quantum Error Correction Code
Abstract
We show that all previously proposed quantum error correction codes do not work when spontaneous emission may occur. We present a code that encodes one qubit and can correct for one general error in the presence of spontaneous emission and we show that our code has the minimum number of qubits required for its realization. The code presented here is more general than previous ones in that it allows for a global phase change in the corrected state. Keywords
