Managerial Cultures and Industrial Strategies in British Firms

Abstract
Managerial cultures are important mediating phenomena between environmental changes and the strategic responses of firms. Major components of managerial cultures are succession patterns to senior posts and standards used to assess managerial performance. This paper discusses 'specialist' and 'generalist' managerial career paths and performance standards in four British firms and their connections to the responses of these firms to the current recession.
