Abstract
A method for producing population inversion in a plasma for use as an x-ray or vacuum-ultraviolet lasing medium is described. The process involves a method for removal of the lower quantum levels of an ion, based upon their velocity, which results in an inversion between them and various upper levels. A possible device and its operating characteristics are also discussed. Keywords
