Two patients’ perspectives of a bone anchored hearing aid

Abstract
The bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA) is a relatively new form of hearing aid for a conductive hearing loss, i.e. where there is a problem transmitting sound through the middle ear but the cochlear function in the inner ear is normal. Sound is transmitted via the bones of the skull directly to the cochlea. The bone conduction hearing aid, which is the conventional way of achieving this transmission, is bulky and uncomfortable and the sound quality is poor from passing through the skin, and is also variable as the headband may move.
