Abstract
Estimates of the average effect size of research cited in socialpsychology textbooks were obtained. The estimates were (a) interpreted in relation to the effect sizes attributed by Cohen (1977) to the behavioral sciences and (b) extrapolated to suggest effect sizes that social psychologists might expect when they do not have more specific information about particular research areas. Keywords
