Inelastic electron scattering from the 13 MeV region in oxygen-16

Abstract
The cross section for the inelastic scattering of electrons from 16O was measured at excitation energies between 11.5 and 13.25 MeV and momentum transfers between 0.45 and 0.9 fm−1. This momentum transfer range bridges the gap between the previous high momentum transfer data of Bishop et al. and the low momentum transfer data of Stroetzel. The odd parity states are compared with the particle–hole predictions generated from Gillet's wave functions. The generalized Helm model fits the 11.5 MeV (2+) level fairly well. An upper limit is set on the excitation of the magnetic monopole (0) level at 12.70 MeV.
