Abstract
Using guinea pigs given a 15 minute exposure to jet engine noise in excess of 140 db, hearing loss was measured 6 to 8 weeks after exposure. Group loss was approx. 34 db. Histological study showed cochlear degeneration, maximal near the base, but spreading from the middle. It is concluded that "the results support the position of total cochlear involvement in response to sound." (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)Keywords
